Morning:
"FTX: 'Celestial Navigation' - Land Sextant"
Presented by:
Major Blackstone of the 911th Squadron
Synopsis: While a compass will guide you (at least until the magnetic field weakens further and/or flips) it will not necessarily tell you where you are, and while a GPS may tell you where you are - if the satellites are scrambled or 'taken-out' (by military action or by nature via the magnetic field issue) they will be of no help. Enter the SEXTANT, long used for thousands of years to successfully navigate the globe and foolproof as it depends on the stars, the sun, the moon, the planets!!! This device is not limited to maritime navigation, for with a device called an artificial horizon, it is turned into a Land Sextant!

Afternoon
"FTX: 'Survival Mode' - Edible Wild Plants"
Presented by: Major Blackstone of the 911th Squadron
Synopsis: An army travels on its stomach - and in a few short weeks after system collapse, the food stores will be empty, then the animals in the woods will be all eaten up - you need to know how to forage for edible wild plants as your life may very well depend on it.

The following items are
HIGHLY recommended for the
above-referenced FTX in April at the 440th BaseCamp:
(and if you can not get them for the FTX, then at least get the book for your survival library...)

Peterson Field Guides "Edible Wild Plants" for Eastern/Central North America By Lee Allen Peterson - ISBN-13: 978-0-395-92622-2  (approx. $19) Try Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com, or have your local bookstore order it for you ;-)

Also, for training purposes are the following items necessary:
For collecting specimens: Loose leaf notebook (1" to 1 1/2" thick) w/sheet protectors (about 25 to 50 sheets)
For labeling:   Scotch Tape (matte finish magic tape or equivalent); Sharpie - extra fine point permanent marker
For collecting/identifying:   Magnifying glass (to see those fine details); Small hand shovel/spade (for digging-up some plants); Rubber or latex disposable gloves (1/2 dozen or so for those possible toxic, poisonous, etc. type plants you may accidentally touch); and
For just a pleasant FTX:   mosquito repellant ;-)

...AND an 'exclusive' for this presentation only:
"Medicinal Wild Plants and Herbs"
An introduction to the 'other side' of wild plants - their medicinal uses!
